Bikepacking Roots will publish updates or detours for any route closures of which we are aware that are likely to last for more than a short time. These longer-term closures may result from wildfires, logging, construction, flooding, etc. We cannot guarantee that we will be aware of all route closures, particularly during peak wildfire season, and for short-lived closures due to small wildfires, detours may not be issued. Also note that any posted detours have will most likely not been scouted on the ground. Should you encounter a closure along the route, please obey all posted regulations and seek out your own detour if we have not created one.
Please refrain from visiting the Bears Ears region during the Covid-19 pandemic (posted July 7, 2020)
A request from the Bears Ears Intertribal Coalition:
"We urge you to consider that Indigenous homelands’, such as Bears Ears and many other ‘public lands’, are not well-equipped with proper protections or infrastructure to handle large influxes of visitors, especially at this time . . . Tribal and rural communities around the country are facing extreme pressure to their food sources, health care systems, and daily life. Native families are working tirelessly to protect elders from getting sick, as they hold Traditional Knowledge that is paramount to their cultural foundation and survival. We must do our part to not place extra stress on these Native and rural communities — like those located in the Bears Ears region — who are already experiencing some of the greatest impacts of this pandemic. The greatest statement of solidarity in this moment, would be to refrain from visiting Bears Ears and instead donate to COVID-19 resources supporting Tribal communities.
Please visit the Coalition's website for updates on visiting the region (see the Covid-19 tab).
