Bears Ears Loops Resources

Bears Ears Loops GPS tracks for navigation

Click here to download the most up-to-date high-resolution GPS data!
The GPS tracks include all segments and alternates in GPX format and a subset of overview waypoints (note: the full 400-waypoint file is included only with the Bears Ears Loop guidebook). GPS tracks can also be downloaded individually from Ride With GPS via the embedded map interface on the main Bears Ears Loops page (click on each segment for details and a direct download link). Tracks each have fewer than 10,000 points and should be compatible with all common GPS units.  GPS base maps are not included but can be found for free here.

Updates and necessary detours will be posted here.

The current GPS track file download is 2022 v1.2, last updated in May, 2022. Please check back for the most current GPS data before launching on your own rides on the Bears Ears Loops as we will update these files periodically. Updates from the prior 2020 v1.0 GPS data are outlined here, and updates to the GPS data can be downloaded at the link above.
The Bears Ears Loops digital and print guidebook with GPS tracks and waypoint data

The digital guidebook

Click here to download the 100-page Bears Ears Loops digital guidebook - available to Bikepacking Roots members with a $25 donation to support continued route development, maintenance, and advocacy. The PDF route guide includes overview maps and elevation profiles for each segment, land management maps, extensive trip planning information, detailed mileage information about water, resupply locations, camping, and more. There are also chapters on the cultural history of the region, Bears Ears National Monument, and the geophysical and biological landscapes of the Colorado Plateau.

The download includes both PDF and ePub e-book formats, as well as the most up-to-date GPS track files and the full set of 400 waypoints for the route. These waypoints
include water sources (and the reliability of those sources), campgrounds, resupply locations, communities, bike shops, lodging options, hardware stores, public libraries, post offices, and more.

The print guidebook
We also have a
spiral-bound version of the Bears Ears Loops Landscape and Route Guide available in return for a $40 donation to support continued route development, maintenance, and advocacy. The guidebook has protective plastic covers and is 5.5x8 inches, sized to conveniently fit nearly anywhere you want to stash it. The print version also includes download access to the digital guidebook in both PDF and ePub e-book formats, as well as the most up-to-date GPS track files and the full set of 400 waypoints for the route.
The Bears Ears Loops Smartphone App

The official Bears Ears Loops mobile app developed with Bikepacking Guides! The app is GPS enabled for navigational ease, offers offline topographic map downloads, includes our 400-waypoint dataset, and offers the capability for riders to leave updates at any waypoint and view other users' updates. This allows riders to share and view updates on the quality of different water sources, great lodging options in a particular town, and other pertinent information. A portion of the proceeds from app purchases are provided to Bikepacking Roots to support continued route development, maintenance, and advocacy.
